Local Marine History Sidney's strong marine history is reflected in this full size relief mural on a local business wall. Painted by Eva Barnes, the mural depicts "How it Was in the Beginning". Many of the park benches sprinkled throughout the downtown area are already occupied by statues of local figures immortalized in stone. You will sit next to an old Sea Captain staring out to see from under his slickers or in front of a bookstore, there is already an older lady in stone reading books on the park bench.

Sidney Chosen for Venue Tulista Park in Sidney BC has been selected as the Venue for the race site. Sidney is a quiet village with lots of local charm and geared for visitors. Anyone on the streets will respond in kind with a smile. The race will commence adjacent to the Washington State Anacortes Ferry dock offshore from Tulista Park. The race course is available elsewhere on this site.

Organizing an event like Nationals can be an overwhelming task, but with good people supporting you and standing behind you, it can be a most rewarding task. I am blessed with having such good people in my life. I would like to thank all the local paddlers from ORPC and Gorge Va’a. We even had a lone paddler from VCKC spend the day helping out!
